Hi peeps...

seem to have an issue with my music folder,i believe it is corrupt some how. I have got 25-30 albums saved in the file, but cant play any of the music, the albums are showing up ,but cnt play any music...the whole my music folder is very slow to respond, once i do click an icon it comes up with a message missing shortcut, windows is trying to find the file...also have noticed that next to each one of my albums it ses shortcut next to everyalbum...eg, shortcut to Lostprophets-start something instead of Lostprophets-start something..

I have reciently transfered all my music off my old desktop to my new laptop, the issue has risen since doing this, but was able to play my music after doing this for a while. Even itunes cant play the albums, each song has an exclamation mark next to it in the itunes library..

would be very greatful if anyone can help me on this matter, thanx

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help,

If you hover the mouse pointer over any of the files it should open a small window giving basic information including the size in KB or MB, for a reasonable length file I would expect to see several MB, if only one or two KB then it may be that all you transferred was the icon and not the full file. If you right click on any file, then properties, it should show even more information, could you let us know what you find?

I would first attempt hard drive error correction:

Manual steps to run Chkdsk from My Computer or Windows Explorer

1.Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check.

2.Click Properties, and then click Tools.

3.Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed.

4.Select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message: The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Sometimes folders with large amounts of files and information can be slow at fully loading, this is just due to the system searching the hard drive for the files and then placing them to view. The more files there are, the slower it will be. Once you have collected or saved all the lost music, try separating them into smaller folders or sub folders each folder given a name such as "All hard rock" the next, "All Ballads" , "Country and Western" etc. Or use the name of the artist instead if you have say, all the music from Dire Straights.
