Guest brad Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Hi, I am having a problem connecting from Domain Controller "A" to Domain Controller "B" using the Computer Management console (compmgmt.msc). While logged on as domain admin, I open compmgmt.msc and can view the local event logs but cannot view the event logs on Domain Controller B. The odd thing is that DC "A" and DC "B" can both use cpmpmgmt.msc to connect to DC "C" and view the logs on that domain controller. but "A" and "B" cannot connect to each other. Any advice on how to correct this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -- bb
Guest Anthony Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Re: unable to connect to domain controller using "compmgmt.msc" Brad, Are they in different sites? It could be the MTU on the VPN, which breaks many of the consoles. If you make a remote desktop connection and view the server event log, can you do that? Is it just the console that is not working? Guest brad Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Re: unable to connect to domain controller using "compmgmt.msc" Anthony, it is not just the event logs that I can't see via the console. Although I can connect to "shares" and Sessions" under Shared Folders, I cannot connect to the event logs nor to the device manager of the remote server via the console. Some time ago I installed the update mentioned in MS Security Advisory 935964; which closes a security issue in the DNS interface, and also makes it impossie to use the DNS interface on one Domain Controller to manage DNS on a remote domain controller. I'm wondering if that update may be the casue of the connection issue? -- bb ""Ken Zhao [MSFT]"" wrote: > Hello, > > Thank you for using newsgroup! > > From your post, could you let us know what the exact error message is? > > Thanks & Regards, > > Ken Zhao > > Microsoft Online Support > Microsoft Global Technical Support Center > > Get Secure! - http://www.microsoft.com/security <http://www.microsoft.com/security> > ==================================================== > When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so > that others may learn and benefit from your issue. > ==================================================== > This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. > > > > > -------------------- > | Thread-Topic: unable to connect to domain controller using "compmgmt.msc" > | thread-index: AcgEV0NP6FpsQ3BVRiGDvtWSCSTqFA== > | X-WBNR-Posting-Host: 207.46.193.207 > | From: =?Utf-8?B?YnJhZA==?= <piraparana@community.nospam> > | References: <B9DCE918-A27A-4860-B75F-BC3E06146B55@microsoft.com> > <uNwI6WFBIHA.4712@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl> > | Subject: Re: unable to connect to domain controller using "compmgmt.msc" > | Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2007 11:17:01 -0700 > | Lines: 40 > | Message-ID: <EC2C8A02-52C3-47C0-B7BE-BB5E09210CA7@microsoft.com> > | MIME-Version: 1.0 > | Content-Type: text/plain; > | charset="Utf-8" > | Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > | X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000 > | Content-Class: urn:content-classes:message > | Importance: normal > | Priority: normal > | X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.3790.2929 > | Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windows.server.general > | Path: TK2MSFTNGHUB02.phx.gbl > | Xref: TK2MSFTNGHUB02.phx.gbl microsoft.public.windows.server.general:23545 > | NNTP-Posting-Host: tk2msftibfm01.phx.gbl 10.40.244.149 > | X-Tomcat-NG: microsoft.public.windows.server.general > | > | Anthony, > | > | All three are in the same site. Guest Anthony Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Re: unable to connect to domain controller using "compmgmt.msc" Hi Brad, I am just trying to understand the problem a little better. So far I understand that you can't access the event logs of DC B using the Computer Management console on DC A. Can you use other consoles connecting to DC B, such as ADUC (and connect to DC B), or DHCP console? Can you connect from C to B, or from any other workstation to B? Do you have any errors in the event logs (when you view them locally or over RDP)? Guest brad Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Re: unable to connect to domain controller using "compmgmt.msc" I CAN connect with ADUC and with ADSS from A to B. Regarding C, although I can connect to it from both A & B, I cannot go the other direction - cannot connect to event logs on A or B from C. I do have entries in the event logs - it is possible to view them all locally. But I don't see anything there related to this problem. -- bb "Anthony" wrote: > Hi Brad, > I am just trying to understand the problem a little better.
