Office Installation appears to work, no apps will start

I just installed the Office 2013 32 bit Professional Plus on Windows 7, and it appeared to install correctly, but none of the apps will open. Word comes up with the splash screen, but then it disappears, none of the other apps do anything. If

I try and open an existing .xlsx files from Excel 2010, I get an error pop up: "There was a problem sending the command to the program."

I've tried removing/reinstalling, multiple reboots, any suggestions?
