Windows 8 offline issue

I am having trouble with some of the features on windows 8.  Although I have an O2 connection, I can access my email and google etc however on some of the windows 8 features it says that I am offline in the top right corner.  How do I change this

so that I can avail of all the features in online mode?

I appreciate any help!
