How do I change Windows Update locations to Windows default settings?

Windows Backup does not complete successfully and I get the message "The system cannot find the file specified (0x 80070002)". Windows error procedures have not found the answer.  MS Fixit files troubleshooter found that the location where Windows Update

stores data has changed and must be repaired by changing WU locations to Windows default settings.  Can someone please explain how I do this?
