File History also stopped for me after only 5% progress reporting "Unusual conditions..."  I don't believe its related to NAS or other networked storage issues as in my case I was storing to a second disk within the PC. By the was the application

found this itself and recommended it.

This is meant to be a simple proposition that any user with/without experience should be able to use. But it is not doing that.

You are meant to have confidence in any backup software...that its purpose

Backup and Restore in W7 worked perfectly for years for me and seems to be more reliable.

My situation is a windows 8 factory delivered proposal on a brand new HP pavilion PC. so no bad installation or user contamination is involved
