That is *not* enough information.

It's not really the software that is on the machine that matters at this

point - but what the hardware is and does Windows support said hardware that

matters.

Thanks...

Yes, the machine meets Windows XP requirements. I'd like to reformat the

disk and load my XP CD. Not sure how to do this.

Boot off your Windows XP Media and install like you would every other

machine. The fact that the machine currently has another OS on it has

little bearing on how you would perform a clean install. You still boot off

the Windows XP installation media, delete all the partitions (to get rid of

the previous OS files/etc), create a new partition, format it and install

Windows XP onto said partition.

You will need the drivers for said hardware - you will get those from the

manufacturer's support web pages (the hardware manufacturer that is.)

In other words - this is no different that performing a clean installation

of Windows XP onto any other machine - whether or not its hard disk drive

contained Windows 3.1/NT/9x/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista, *nix, BeOS, OS X, etc.

If the hardware is Windows XP compatible and you can get the hardware

drivers for said hardware for Windows XP from the manufacturer of said

hardware - then you can install Windows XP cleanly by booting from the

media, wiping all prior information from the hard disk drive (or at least

one partition) and formatting/installing on said hard disk drive

(partition.)

Set the BIOS to boot from CD, insert the CD and reboot, follow the prompts.

To do this, you need:

1) Disconnect server from network / Internet

2) Delete the Unix "system" partitions

3) Configure server to boot from CD

4) Locate additional drivers for hard drive controller (SCSI, SATA)

drivers, if they exist. Create the "install" boot drive floppy.

5) Boot the server with the XP CD.

As for installing XP in a "virtual environment" to runs under Unix,

you need to look that the "virtual environemnt" system so as to see

what the manufacturer lists out as the method to install XP>

Re: loading Windows XP on a unix machine

Thanks again!

I've reset my BIO's to look at the CD drive (first) on boot-up. I put the

original XP CD in the drive and reboot. The system spins up the CD (light

flashes, hums etc.) but the SW does begin to load. After a few moments the

Unix login prompt appears. If I login I'm back in a unix. Any thoughts?

Thanks
