pictures not opening " by date " in Vista

In my wife's Vista, when I open up a sub-folder in Pictures, I want it to automatically sort " by date".   I have " by date " selected in this sub-folder but it opens up " by name " and each time I have to wait for it to go through the process of sorting

" by date ".   This situation does not occur in my Windows 7
