How do I connect to the internet on my laptop with my MID Google android tablet? what else do I hav

Now I have a MID Google Android 4.0, 1.2 GHZ, 4 GB tablet. I was hoping to plug into my lap top and get onto the internet for lots of things. I have tried but there's no internet connection happening.  Maybe I'm missing something. I'm a grandma trying

to figure this out. Can you help me? I'm on a wireless laptop w/modem, Windows XP,  I may need a USB ini adapter whatever that is. thanks.
