Adapter on Dell computerwith Windows 7 and Intel Core 13 seems not to be working- how can I fix and

I have a new Dell laptop but which was the show computer in John Lewis.  It does not seem to connect to the wireless router, or if it does it is very tempermental.  Often, even if my laptop tries to search for the wireless connection, the router will then

shut down and has to be rebooted.  Troubleshooting the problem suggests that the' Intel Wireless adapter cannot be found' or that the 'wireless network cannot be found'. 

 

I would be really grateful if somebody knew how to fix this problem?  It would be great to be able to use wireless...
