Can't play youtube and other videos .

Suddenly, I am not able to play videos...have never had a problem before.   The message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file.  The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."    My o/s

is Win 7 Professional x64; processor is AMD quad core 640 in a Gigabyte 880 GMA-UD2H main board;  ATI Radeon HD 4250.  I have no idea what might have changed to cause this. HELP!
