windows xp Windows Firewall won't start . cannot start ICS internet connection sharing service

hi please help, my computer was infected with a fairly nasty trojan, (MEREDROP) i managed to delete it (and all its subsequent downloaded files) but it was very difficult. anyway ever since my windows firewall will not start. i get error code;1075 and

the msg (windows cannot start (ICS) internet connection sharing service). i've tried replacing registry files, i've tried system restore, i've tried changing permissions, i've tried turning it on manually, i've updated my BITS. ive also made sure that the

dependant services are running. according to my component services list, they are ...Nothing works. will i have to format the HD to resolve this or is there a windows standalone Firewall available for download?
