The offending program, Driver Manager, is a nasty one. It escapes system restore. Ok, use a backup from a day before it was installed, the bugger backdates the install date in the control panel. I missed that fact until after my system was restored. Also, it

throws some "severe" Trojan that defender thankfully quarantined. I deleted it and I forget the name. I'm new to win 8 and the malicious software removal tool does not list win8 as supported, just Win 7 and earlier.
