virus protection update won't happen?

when i try to run an update for my virus and spyware definitions it tells me there is an internet connectivity problem and it can't update (last update was in December as computer has not been used)  because of an internet connectivity problem. But I am

on email and internet no problem with other sites?

Any idea why and how I can fix it?thanks
