Windows Vista can't update

About a week ago I noticed that Windows update was constantly trying to download four updates these wereKB 2679255KB 2724197KB 2676562KB 2393802Each time they seemed to have successfully updated, yet the next day there they were again.

Yesterday however Windows checked for updates and it said 'Windows can't check for updates' It also says that I have never installed any updates! I am also getting the error code 80070002.

I have looked in various forums for help but everything I have tried has failed to correct the error.

I tried system restore but the oldest restore point I had was not far enough back unfortunately.

Could anyone suggest what I could try to repair the Windows update please?
