Guest Neil Jarman Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 Hi, Can anyone recommend a host with large storage which allows me to backup systems via ftp? I have tried with 2 companies so far (ixhosting and siteground) both offer large spaces (300 & 500 Gb resp) but the former demands all files be linked to web (?) and the latter restricts storage of many filetypes to 5Gb so both are absolutely NO USE whatever for backup. Can't afford to rent a dedicated server - this has been suggested already! Cheers, NEIL:
Guest Johan Strange Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 RE: recommend ftp host? Just as a suggestion maybe you could rent the rack space only rather than a dedicated box, and use your own Server. I do a similar thing , I have a 2u with Fedora also running VSFTP so all I pay for is renting the space which includes things like UPS and aircon etc. I also get a 256K burstable pipe. The downside is that if my box crashes I have to physically attend or pay an hourly rate for a Data centre engineer to investigate whereas with the dediccated or managed hosting its all inclusive. I am also finding that dedicated hosting is becoming better value seeing as many ISPs are moving to VMWare I hope this helps you -- Johan Strange _______________________________ MCSE, MCSA + Messaging, CompA+ Logic42 Computer Solutions - The answer to everything "Neil Jarman" wrote: > Hi, > > Can anyone recommend a host with large storage which allows me to backup > systems via ftp? > > I have tried with 2 companies so far (ixhosting and siteground) both offer > large spaces (300 & 500 Gb resp) but the former demands all files be linked > to web (?) and the latter restricts storage of many filetypes to 5Gb so both > are absolutely NO USE whatever for backup. > > Can't afford to rent a dedicated server - this has been suggested already! > > Cheers, > > NEIL: > > >
