autoplay looking for unavailable drive

I have a problem with autoplay in vista. It keeps trying to recover the G drive (my usb attached samsung phone) that is no longer attached to the computer. Samsung apparently changed the phones so that they were not recognised via usb (although i could

get to the content via the file manager) but the phone could not be ejected. I have tinkered with autoplay to try and stop this, plus downloaded samsung software that allows it to be seen as a drive, but autoplay keeps trying to recover it even after shutting

down completely (including shutting down with phone attached).  Any advice gratefully received!
