Hello.

Since I upgraded to Windows 8, I've discovered my system resets my speaker configuration to Stereo rather than 5.1, seemingly at random. I have a Creative X-Fi card and in Windows XP and 7, speaker configuration was always able to be modified within their

Volume Panel app. In Windows 8, however, I have to use the Windows Speaker Setup configuration box to change to 5.1.. so I figure Windows 8 is managing the amount of speakers now. It seems to be doing a terrible job at it, though.

What could be causing it to forget the setting? My sound card software is not forgetting any of my sound cards settings in the volume panel, but Windows keeps forgetting the number of speakers. What is Windows doing different than it used to?  Can this

be stopped? It's a pain  to have to check and change the setting every time I go to watch a movie or do something with audio. :P
