on start up my screen splits into 4 identical desktops

I have a Compaq Presario v6444us laptop.  for the past year, everytime I have to restart, for whatever reason, my screen comes up divided into 4 parts, identical.  They are tiny little destops.  I have to do system restore to get my original desktop back. 

Any suggestions?
