applications close when PC is locked

I have a newly deployed Dell Optilex 790 Small Form Factor running Windows XP Pro w/SP3.   The user reports that whenever she locks the PC (CTRL+ALT+DEL and "Lock this Computer") all of her running applications close.  I have never seen this before.  Does

anyone know what might be causing this?
