Getting second server to see licenser server

We have two virtual servers running VMWare on our university network. These

servers are only available internally for academic use and are both

addressable with internal separate IP addresses (XXX.XXX.XXX.205 and

XXX.XXX.XX.206). They are both running Windows 2003 server while our

university is Linux based. The first vserver has terminal services license

server running on it as well as SQL 2005 and Dynamics GP 9.0. The second

vserver is configured for Active Directory so we can install CRM 3.0 on it.

How do we set up the terminal services on the second vserver (.206) so that

it can see the license server of the first vserver (.205)?

Thanks for any assistance.

You can simply specify the name or IP address of the server where the

licensing service is running.

Can you provide a little more detail of the process that we would perform to

set this up.

Thanks.

Re: Getting second server to see licenser server

On the Terminal Server: Start Menu - Administrative tools -

Terminal Services Configuration - Server settings - Licensing. Put

in the name or IP number of the TS Licensing Server here.

Re: Getting second server to see licenser server

Make the registry entry described here on the TS

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=279561

Check that it sees the license server with LSVIEW

Re: Getting second server to see licenser server

We tried to do this.

He went to the second server (.206) and went to "All listed Servers" and

entered the IP address of the first serving running the license server and

gets a message that the server can not be found.

He also went to the screen "Terminal Services License Server Discovery" and

selected "Use these licenses servers" and entered the IP address of the first

server. We get the error message "The following servers specified in the

License Server dialog bog are not valid Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services

License Server: xxx.xxx.xxx.205".

The license server is working correctly on the first server.

Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Getting second server to see licenser server

Are there any warnings or errors in the EventLog on the second

server? If so, can you post EventID, Source and Description?

Under which account are you logged on to the second TS? If you log

on with a *local* Administrator account, which has no rights on the

first server, then the TS Licensing Manager tool on server2 won't

be able to see the LS on server1.

Is server1 installed with all defaults options, or have some

services been stopped and disabled manually? I believe that you

need to have the Remote Registry Service running on the LS, and

possibly also the File and Print Service.

Re: Getting second server to see licenser server

Thanks to everyone for the help. We appear to have the problem solved. Famous

last words. :-)

We ended up logging onto the first server and found the test server from

there which seemed to activate the license server.
