I have a very peculiar problem with my mom's computer which she purchased from a major retailer and had Windows 7 pre-installed. It's a HP / Compaq Presario CQ57. Now if I was there when she purchased the computer I would have warned her to stay away from

anything HP or Compaq but that's what she got. No wonder these companies are going defunct.

I went into the system properties and the Windows is activated but every once in a while the computer says that the Windows is not genuine. I checked the computers Update history and it hasn't downloaded a single update since the day it was purchased.

Whenever I try to use Windows Update it says that it must download the new updater but in the process of getting an error code of 8000FFFF which makes no sense at all. I've tried the Windows Fix it, didn't work but I think that since the computer thinks

that the Windows isn't genuine that it's preventing it from downloading updates. When I click the link on the page when I get the warning that the windows isn't genuine it doesn't even give me a chance to verify the computers license. Is there a way to run

a program to go thru this process manually.
