I am trying to install through Windows Update "Update for Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 KB2769166 which shown as an important update but it keeps failing and is driving me mad. I have been researching this, and have run the System Update Readiness Tool which

shows that all is OK. I have also run the Windows Update Troubleshooter but still no help. All I can think of doing is to hide the update, but this is wrong as it is an important update. Why does it keep failing and how do I resolve the problem. I am using

Windows 8 and all other updates are just fine.
