Windows Updates failure

We recently purchased a computer (Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E430) with Windows 7 through NewEgg. When I have tried to perform Windows Updates, it always comes up with around 54 failures. The errors found lists:

 

Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

-Windows can't update important files and services while the system is using them. Save any open files, and then restart the computer.

 

Is there any way to see what files/services they are so that I can try to stop them from running and perform the updates? Or do we think this computer is messed up and that I should send back?
