windows vista home premium build 6002 states "this copy of windows is not genuine." when attempting

Do these messages prevent me from using my computer for secure transactions? How can I fix this problem? I have tried the steps listed to fix myself but reply states my PID is invalid. Is this a gimmick to force me to purchase something?
