Am helping a neighbor at a nearby retirement community.  She has a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Vista Basic, sp2.  I was cleaning some things up for her and I noticed two strange things about Windows Update.

First, it offered as an optional update  a MSE definition update even though her computer is NOT running MSE (Is runng AVG free).  I cannot find where MSE is or was ever installed.  Not listed under ALL PROGRAMS.  Not listed in PROGRAMS AND FEATURES.  Not

listed in msconfig STARTUP items.

Second, the computer is continually offered 8 updates dealing with .Net Framework 4.  (e.g. KB2604121 is one.)  The updates are successfully installed (as viewed in history), but they are offered again, and installed successfully again.  And again.

Seems like I need to reset something?  Suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike T in VA.
