Skype calls changing speaker output

Whenever I am making a Skype call the sound from the call comes out of my external speakers, while all other computer sounds are coming from the laptop speakers. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, changing communications devices, sound settings, the

communications tab, skype settings, and can't find the source of the problem. Is there a way to stop Skype from changing speaker output during calls? I have an HP Pavilion g7 running Windows 7.
