How to partition drive within Window 7?

I get Norton Ghost, which can create a backup image for exisiting C: for restore.

 

My notebook only gets a C: drive, and I would like to partition into C: and D:, and would like to know how to do it.  Do I need to compress the drive before performing any partition?

 

Does anyone have any suggestions?
