how do I unlock my administrator Account so that I can do Windows updates?

My administrator account is locked, and although I know the password, there is no option in wehich to type it or a highlighted 'yes' to click once I have.  My operating system is Windows &.  Cherrs and many thanks for your assistance.  Juliet
