why are my windows live emails showing up as text/notepad files

A few days ago, my emails form people have started showing up at text/notepad attachments, instead of just being able to be viewed on windows live mail.  So I have to open each attachment in order to read the email- very inconvenient.  Does nayone know why

this woudl happen and how I can fix it? Thank you !
