Had 18017 Updates!

Although I try to monitor and chose the updates installed when I powered off this morning my PC (W7) decided to install updates (the log subsequently showed 15 had been installed). When I powered the PC back on half an hour ago it said it was installing

180127 updates! These lasted only a few minutes before it configured the earlier updates. But my question was what was going on - over 18000 updates is a heck of a lot!
