Microsoft Update -KB2789642 will not install, Error 0x643

I have tried multiple time to install this update without success. It came with another nine updates on Feb.12. All the other

were installed including KB2789643 for Microsoft.Net Framework 4.

I am running windows XP Professional with IE8. and disk mirroring with Raid1 . +McAfee internet security.

-I have tried several of the easier solutions suggested on the forum including Fixit and trying to repair Microsoft.net Framework 4

client profile with add/remove program but the latter failed.

-Restoring the sytem to previous checkpoints did not solve the problem.

-Checks with McAfee (which was re-installed today) and Malwarebytes were clear.

There may have had file corruption problems following a disk failure and reconstruction although I do not appear to have

 

problems with other applications., Checkdisk was activated on reboot.

I have not tried any solutions which involve the registry as beyond my limited knowledge.

 

What are the security implications if this update is not installed?

Any suggestions as to what checks can be carried out?
