Block Level drive copy

Is there a utility that works with Windows 2003 that would allow me to

do a block level copy of a disk from one server to another? I have to

replace a server, and the data drive has millions of small files on

it. It takes 14+ hours to copy the data using ROBOCOPY and it's only

a 64 gig volume.

Thanks

Re: Block Level drive copy

Hello freedom,

Try it with a backup from the drive/folder. Has also the advantage that you

wil keep the security settings. I assume the server is an additional one

in the domain?

Re: Block Level drive copy

I did that, but still no joy. I ended up building a test machine

while I was playing around, and I had local disks attached. To copy

the drive using ROBOCOPY from disk to disk on the same machine took a

whole work day. I downloaded a tool called DD.EXE that allowed me to

do a block level copy, and I was able to replicate the drive in about

15 minutes. Of course, I can't do the actual job on one machine, I

need to be able to copy the files to a different server.

To make matters more difficult, I also need the ability to copy drives

that have a proprietary file system that Windows doesn't see. I also

tested DD on that and it works just fine. I just need the ability to

send the data to a different host.

Thanks
