how do i fix "The update is not applicable to your computer" to do with minecraft?

gday,

ive recently downloaded n attempted to install minecraft from minecraft.net n ive gotten as far as the installer n it come up with the following message

"The update is not applicable to your computer". ive googled this problem n have only found solutions of how to fix this to do with f1 help. my os is windows 8 64 bit with an i5 processor. ive been playing minecraft from a web based browser but it keeps

coming up with "minecraft has run out of memory. please restart ur game" so ive just temporarily given up. im hoping I hear from someone soon to get this issue fixed. cheers and thank you
