Office updates (16 identified as critical) refuse to update. Error code 0x700

I am running Windows XP SP3.  All updates are current.  Earlier this week I received notification of 16 Office updates identified as critical.  I downloaded and attempted to install.  All updates error off with error code 0x700.  I have spent the week

running every conceivable solution offfered with no success.  The common fix is to run Windows FixIt and I have run it to death.  It always says a repair has been done and to try again.  Windows update just won't complete successfully.  The update process

progress bar seems to indicate the update process is at the end of the installation when the systems indicates the updsate failed with this error code.  The first of the 16 updates is Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2002 (KB2293422) but the problem is

not unique to this update.  The other 15 error off with the same error code.  Can anyone offer a solution to this before I physically take this box and throw it from the rooftop?  I have wasted a week on this and the frustration level is sky high.
