Windows could not search for updates

I try to search for updates but I just get an error 8024402c what do i do to apply and search for updates I am using windows 8. Also I finally figured  out how to dual boot my computer. When I try to get more than 7 GBs of space on the partition or volumn

which ever you call it it wont let me. Is it possible to put 35 GB atleast on the new partition. the new partition that I made has windows 7 on it.
