Security Essentials Install fails with "corrupt file"

Windows 7 Pro, new computer, all updates ran, no other anti-virus. tried installing in safe mode, rebooting, redownloading, downloading on another computer and then bringing installer over, checked to see that I had the right version 64 bit, tried everything

I could think of. Installer starts and then gives dialog, file corrupt, and installation ceases. Simply cannot install MS Security Essentials, which had installed easily on other computers in the past. Don't know how to get this to work and install!
