How can I be sure that the virus(s) is gone after Microsoft security Essentials cleans pc?

Microsoft alerted me that there were 3 viruses on PC, & prompted me to clean PC, How do I know for sure that they are gone? This is the #rd day that Microsoft has alerted me about the same viruses. I ran a full scan & it stated that there were no more

threats. It concerns me that I keep getting the same message after 3 days.
