Guest J. Lopez Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I had a problem with spyware that I took care of. But now I cannot access certain websites and some websites take a really long time to come up. I have IE7. I upgraded from IE6 thinking that might solve my problem but it didnt. Is there anything else that I can check to be able to access these websites again. I am stumped. I am thinking of just doing a fresh install. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You

Guest Juan I. Cahis Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Re: Cannot access mcafee.com or symantec. com Look at your "hosts" file, there is some malware that blocks the access to *any* antivirus manufacturer assigning their URL to localhost, so the installed antivirus program cannot find the server for the auto update process. If you find this issue, replace your "host" file with one from a clean machine, and do a good check from a good and *updated* antivirus-antispyware. The "host" file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC folder. J. Lopez <JLopez@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >I had a problem with spyware that I took care of. Guest Newbie Coder Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Re: Cannot access mcafee.com or symantec. com J Lopez, Its more than likely that your Hosts file contains http://www.symantec.com pointing at 127.0.0.1. Remove these entries & just leave LOCALHOST pointing to 127.0.0.1 -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "J.
