Why can't I download acrobat/adobe to my toshiba computer w windows 8?

Have a new computer with windows 8 and everytime I try to download flash player it automatically goes to help screen for windows 8 which I do but still doesn't work. Please help. Been trying for weeks, has me in tears so frustrated.
