Windows 8 stuck on Please Wait Screen

Bought a HP laptop less than two months ago and has been running fine until this morning. I had previously read about problems with Windows Updates and screens getting stuck but I have had no issues in past updates. The past few days my laptop has had

a message, Windows will update in 2 days etc. I can not recall the update taking place as usually it takes place in the background however I recieved know error messages if anything did go wrong. I was usuing my laptop last night without any issues however

this morning after turning my laptop on it has got stuck on the please wait screen and is not booting. Please help as I have very important university work to do. Thanks Daniel
