Updates Cause factory reset

I recently installed updates from microsoft and after the updates were installed and the pc restarted, my pc was set back to the way I received it from the factory. Lost all my icons and setup. I was able to do a system recovery. Does anyone have any idea

which update caused this problem. I would like to add the updates that I need but I am a little leary of updates now. Please help!
