what version of windows do I need to connect to a dual mode digital camera?

currently I have windows 7 home premium; I recently purchased a digital camera for my daughter and am unable to view or edit her photos as when I connect with the USB cable the device is not recognised. When i investigated the USB it said that dual mode

camera was not compatible with this version of windows.
