Security Essentials could not turn on Real-time Protection

Every time I try to turn on MS Security Essentials, I receive an error.  "This operation returned because the timeout period has expired".I have tried uninstalling, re installing the program but continue to receive this error to Turn On real-time protection.What can I try next?
