SBS 2003 move to new hardware

We have a non-standard "server" (it's actually more of a PC) running SBS 2003

and would like to migrate the installation over to a real server and keep

everything the same. Basically just move the installation from one server to

another and retire the old server.

Is there a good KB article that outlines the necessary procedure?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David,

The first link shown by Juan probably won't apply to your situation. It

sounds like you have a functioning SBS2003 server and wish to switch it over

to better server hardware? If that is the case, then the "SBSMigration"

link will prove to be your best friend!

Why not drop over to the SBS Newsgroup and visit with us; a real nice group

of folks and they are very helpful in any matter concerning SBS. They are

huge fans of using the SBSMigration kit for your task. See you over there!

microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs is the place...

Hi, Although not an officially supported solution I moved my SBS 2003

installation to a new HP server running Windows Server 2003 R2 by using

VMware's free virtualization products. My SBS server is less than 40GB so

the entire process took about five hours to convert the physical server to a

virtual server on the new box. The best part is I have a backup copy of the

VMware image files ready to startup if needed.
