windows 7 Acer Laptop w/ Windows 7 won't give me higher resolution than1024X600, but I need 1024X768 to comple

I have Acer "Aspire One D260",with Intel Atom Processor N450 (1.66GHz, 512KB cache), 1 GB memory, storage = 160 GB HDD, can I do something to get higher resolution? Should I upgrade to Windows 8, or other?
