windows 7 Why did my Windows Explorer (taskbar icon) dissappear?

Eve since I got my Windows 7 computer, the bottom left of the taskbar has had (from left to right):

 

(a) Start button

(b) Internet Explorer icon

© a folder icon that would launch Windows Explorer (to let me see my hard drives, flash memory sticks, etc., and all their contents)

 

Recently, I did something -- though I can't remember what -- that made © dissappear [ (a) and (b) remain ].

 

What can I do to recover ©?

 

Yes, I have gone through several power-down/power-up cycles and run anti-virus s/w.
