Switch User option appears after 5 years on Vista, and I am the only User

Last night when I tried to shut down my Computer as I always do, the option to "Swithc User" appeared in the drop down  It would not let me use Restart, Shut Down or any of the other options.  I am the only user.  I logged off my account and and then powered

down with the warning that the other user might lose unsaved work.  THERE IS NO OTHER USER.  Nor has there ever been.

How do I get rid of this option.  Also..when I click start and go up and down the options, like Program Files, Settings, etc. the blue highlite only appears for a split second.  I have made no changes to my computer.
