Windows 8 update keeps making my windows crash.

My computer keeps crashing after it tells me to update upon restart. Once I do, I get to my log on screen and it's been changed. Once I'm at the desktop, it's blank and all my shortcuts are gone. Even worse is that I can only access programs and such by

clicking on the lower task bar and opening it after activating the show "Desktop" feature. It keeps saying that windows is no longer compatible. Then I have to system restore and my computer is back to normal, but then it's constantly telling me to update.

But the same problem keeps reoccurring. I would like to keep up to date with my windows, but obviously that's impossible if it'll keep crashing because of it..please help!
