Why do the application windows suddenly disappear

When I am working in an application (Microsoft Office or otherwise) and I move my hand to the keyboard to type text into the document, the application's window suddenly disappears and the desktop appears and I have to move the mouse again to see the application's

window.This happens continuously even if I do not move the mouse and while the pointer is in the middle of the application's window.
